A catch-all email address is a mail server configuration that accepts every message sent to any address at a domain — including addresses that don't actually exist — instead of rejecting invalid ones immediately. This is also called an "accept-all" domain. Because the server doesn't reject bad addresses at the point of delivery, standard SMTP verification can't tell a real mailbox from a fake one, which is why catch-all domains require specialized validation like Gamalogic's pattern analysis and predictive scoring.
| Type | What It Means | Bounces Immediately? | Common Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catch-all / Accept-all | Domain accepts all addresses, valid or not | No — delayed NDR | Silent bounce, wasted sends |
| Disposable / temporary | Short-lived inbox (e.g. Mailinator) used to avoid a real signup | Sometimes | Fake signups, no real engagement |
| Role-based | Routes to a group, not a person (info@, support@) | No | Low engagement, not a real lead |
| Greylisted | Server temporarily defers unfamiliar senders | Temporary block | Misread as invalid if not retried |
| Spam trap | Address planted to catch spammers | No | Blacklisting, sender reputation damage |
| Honeypot | Hidden trap address, invisible to real users | No | Silent reputation damage |
Gamalogic validates for all six of these categories in a single API call — see the full validation methodology.
Catch-all validation matters most for teams sending to B2B domains, where accept-all configurations are common on corporate Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace servers.
